Bacacay, my hometown, is made up of approximately 26 islands. One highlight of our trip was visiting Daddy Emil and Mommy Lyn's land in one of the islands. Of course, somebody failed to mention that 'visit' would involve crawling up the mountain for an hour then slipping and sliding back same mountain on the way back. One thing I learned--when climbing a mountain, only go with family or really really good friends. They're the only ones who will bear with you when you're griping and moaning and just want to plant your butt where there's no carabao poop. On the practical side, a sturdy walking stick is your ally. Two uncles are also good to have to give you pep talks, climbing lessons and a helping hand when you're about to fall into streams or roll down the muddy mossy slope.
